Backsplash Band

The Story

The Backsplash Band was formed with Jon Sheffield and Pedro Cirilo and two members who were selected from auditions held from an advertisement online.  The 3rd member was Livio Giannantonio a drummer and 4th and final member was Chris Ritchings Lead guitar player.  The Backsplash Band used an online booking agency to provide gigs for private parties and corporate events and parties.  The band stayed busy in thru 2015-2016 and did gigs all over Connecticut and Massachusetts.   Their last gig was the Triumph Christmas party at the Hilton ballroom in December 2016.  Although they did get together for practice one time after the December 2016 gig, they eventually disbanded by 2017.  There have been talks about a reunion but that so far has not come to fruition as of 2021.

The Sound Reason Band

Title : The Sound Reason Band

The Sound Reason Band was made up of Jon Sheffield & Pedro Cirilo from Manchester CT and Tony Schiavone and Ron from Bristol CT.  Jon met Ron on Bandmix.com around 2014 and was invited to play in his friend Tony’s basement.  The chemistry and sound was good and eventually Pedro with whom Jon had collaborated about starting up a duo was invited in.  Playing with a band with a real drummer was a fresh change after all the years doing the duo in Florida.  After around a year in 2015 Jon decided to put together his own band using local auditioned musicians and started up the Backsplash Band.  Sound Reason band went on for a while and Jon sat in on a gig to fill in for their bass player around 2016 at the now closed Slante Pub in Naugatuck CT.

Jon and Pete Duo

Band : ,
Title : The Jon & Pete Duo
Release Date : November 7, 2025

The Story

The Jon & Pete Duo was started around 2008.  After the chaos that was the New Mystic Creek band, Jon was looking for a more professional show that could be marketed to some of the smaller clubs that were not setup for full size bands.  After putting an advertisement and auditioning at least 12 different guitar players, Pete Madison came over.  He was not familiar with the music I was doing and after the audition asked if he could come back again after he had more time to go over the material.  I agreed and on the second meeting, he nailed all the songs, had them almost perfect.  Only problem was that he couldn’t sing at all and I was looking for a guitar player/singer to share the singing duties.  I solved the problem by adding backup vocals to the drum tracks we were using.

A booking agent helped us secure a rotating circuit that included all the Moose lodges, Elks lodges and many bars and restaurants though out Orlando and Cocoa Beach.  These included: The Cork Room, The Red Lion, Johnny’s Filling Station, Ain’t Misbehavin, Holly & Dolly’s, McWells, The Cocoa Beach Pier and Coconuts on the Beach.  We had a very busy schedule and were booked almost every weekend and some weekdays.  After getting short changed by The Cork Room, Pete decided he had had enough and was never heard from again.  Jon used several other guitar players including the very talented Jeff Adkins, Dave Birks and others to finish out the bookings and then dissolved the Jon & Pete Duo.  It wasn’t until moving to Connecticut in 2011 that Jon joined in with some musicians he found on bandmix.com for what was to become the Sound Reason Band.

The Story

The New Mystic Creek band was a band Jon put together around 2003 after moving back to Florida in 2001.  The name came from Jon’s previous band name Mystic Creek.  The band stayed together off and on for 4-5 years off and on and played several gigs including one in Thornton Park near downtown Orlando at Burtons on July 4th 2007 and another at Artisan Park in Celebration Florida (see video below) before Jon decided to give up the complexities of a band and perform as a duo by auditioning guitar players and starting up the Jon & Pete Duo.

The Story

The Senceless band was Jonathan Sheffield’s first band. Formed around 1979 from neighborhood friends when Jonathan was 14 years old and had only been playing guitar for a short time. He taught his friend John Heaney a few chords, got his friend Steve Cascaddan on drums and the next thing you know he had a band. After a lot of work in his parents garage, the band only played one gig where it won a contest at a church talent show.

The only known photo shows in addition to Jon Sheffield holding the Mic, John Heany on guitar and Steve Cascaddan on drums, our roadies (and pals) Bill Priest and Henry Marin.  Two more photos are screen shots from the super 8 film shown below.

These audio clips of two songs were found on a old 1979 cassette and are the only know music recorded from this band.  the Get Back to Me was digitally restored in 2020 and in 2015 basic Noise reduction and equalization was applied to partially restore the Tuesdays Gone recording.

  1. Get Back to Me - Senceless Band Original 1979 Get back to me: this is an original song that was kind of made up as it went along. recorded around 1979 and is one of the earliest original songs by Jonathan Sheffield as well as one of the oldest recordings. 4:12
  2. Tuesdays Gone - Senceless Band 1979 Tuesdays gone: a rough version the Lynard Skynard song with Jonathan starting out on vocals and John Heaney doing the rest. Jonathan is playing rhythm guitar and Heaney is playing lead. 6:56

Video

The only Video of the Senceless band was shot on super 8 sound film and was made in 1979 at the Blessed Trinity church social hall during a talent show in which the Senceless band came in 2nd, after a clogging duo who won 1st place.  Going on after this humiliation seemed Senceless but didn’t stop Jon from joining the Allies band a year or two later as bass player.
